Noble Traits of Imam Hasan

"Hasan bin Ali (as) was certainly the most true worshipper, ascetic and merited man among the people of his time." Imam Jaffer As-Sadiq (as).

Whenever Imam Hasan (as) would do his ablution, he would tremble and his face would turn pale. When  asked about it, and he replied: 'It is only natural that one who stands in the presence of the Lord of the Throne turns ashen, and trembles...’( Rawdhat al-Waideen (Orchard of the Preachers)
When Imam Hasan (as) approached the door of the mosque, he would say: 'O Lord! Your guest is at Your gate. O Generous! The transgressor has come to You. Forgive me my ugly deeds with Your Generosity. O Generous!'

Imam Hasan (as) wept whenever he remembered death and the grave.  When he thought of the Resurrection and Day of Judgment he gasped so deeply and painfully that he fainted because of it. When reciting  the Qur'an he  came across a verse addressing the faithful by these words: 'O you who believe...,' he’d say: 'Here I am, my Lord, here I am...'

Imam Hasan (as)’s modesty and humility can be seen from this event:  Once he saw some poor men eating old bread which they had picked up from the road.  These men invited the Imam (as) to eat with them. Imam (as), without any hesitation, accepted the invitation and said: "Certainly Allah does not like the proud."

After he ate the meal of old bread with them, Imam Hasan (as) invited the poor men to his house. He showered them with money, fed and clothed them.

As the followers of Imam Hasan (as), it is our duty to follow his example and incorporate his characteristics in our lives.
